Venezuela’s acting president Delcy Rodríguez announced Saturday that a petroleum agreement with the United States will run for 25 years with production goals exceeding 1.5 million barrels daily. Taking 65 dollars a barrel as a reference price, she said Venezuela could receive 209.335 billion dollars under the agreement. Rodríguez said the arrangement means close to 19 dollars enter directly into the country for each barrel produced and sold.
Wider ambitions
Rodríguez framed the deal as one step in a broader strategy, saying Venezuela wants to reach further agreements with other large oil companies. “Our goal goes further with the signing of other important agreements that include large companies like Chevron, Repsol, Eni, Shell, BP, among others,” she said. “We want to be an energy power.”
The announcement was carried by the state television channel Venezolana de Televisión.
