We publish quickly about numbers that move markets. Sometimes we will get something wrong.
This page explains what we do about it.

How to report an error

Write to us through the contact page with the article title, the
passage in question and, where you can, the source that shows the correct figure. We read every
report.

What we do

  • Factual error — we correct the article and add a dated correction note at
the foot of the piece explaining what was wrong and what it now says.
  • Significant error — where a mistake changes the meaning of the article, the
correction note appears at the top, not the foot.
  • Minor error — spelling, formatting or a broken link is fixed silently.
  • Clarification — where the article was accurate but open to being misread,
we add a clarification rather than a correction.

What we do not do

We do not quietly delete or rewrite a published article to remove an error. The record of what
we said stays visible alongside the correction.
