Italy’s preliminary annual inflation rate for October 2026 came in at 5.4%, above the 4.6% market forecast. The figure was released at 10:00 GMT on 30 October 2026.
Comparison with the previous period
The reading was also higher than the previous period, when inflation stood at 4.2%. The rise of 1.2 percentage points on that figure marks a faster pace of price increases than the period before.
The inflation rate measures how much the general level of consumer prices has changed over the past year. A higher figure means that households pay more for the same basket of goods and services than they did twelve months earlier.
What the figure measures
Because the figure is preliminary, it may be revised when the final estimate is published. Readings above forecast can signal that price pressures are stronger than economists had expected.
