Speaking at a press conference at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources office, Bahlil said Indonesia imports RON 90 fuel from neighbouring countries and that, starting the following day, he would travel to several countries including India, China and others to secure supply certainty.
Reliance on Singapore
Singapore has been Indonesia’s largest country of origin for oil and oil product imports from 2017 to 2024, according to Badan Pusat Statistik (BPS). Imports from Singapore rose to 15.87 million tonnes in 2024, up from 13.13 million tonnes in 2023.
Indonesia’s national oil consumption stands at 1.6 million barrels per day, while domestic lifting, or ready-to-sell production, is around 600 thousand barrels per day. That gap leaves the country importing approximately 1 million barrels per day.
India and China capacity
India operates 23 refineries with a combined capacity of 248.9 million tonnes per year, and exported 61.5 million tonnes of oil products in the 2025/2026 fiscal year. China’s gasoil, or diesel, demand fell 2.5 percent in 2024 compared with the prior year.
Bahlil said that, on the instruction of President Prabowo, national fuel reserves are at the national minimum standard and subsidised fuel prices will not rise. He said he had been instructed to seek long-term contracts with supplier countries.
Bahlil had made an earlier remark on the matter at Bali Tech Week 2026 in Sanur, Bali, the previous week, on 19 October.
