Conversion of export proceeds from natural resource exports into rupiah fell 37.4 percent in the first three months, a Finance Ministry representative said on Friday, 6 November. The official said a three-month evaluation of the implementation of the government regulation points to the need for policy relaxation to support smooth business operations.

The ministry’s representative said retention of export proceeds in foreign currency rose over the same period. A three-month evaluation found inflows and uses of those proceeds relatively stable, the official said.

Single-window export rules in place

Export policy for strategic natural resources runs through PT Danantara Sumberdaya Indonesia (DSI), effective 1 June 2026. The policy followed a presidential speech to a plenary session on 20 May and aims to curb under-invoicing, transfer pricing and the flight of export proceeds.

Covered commodities are crude palm oil, coal and ferro alloy. DSI acts only as single intermediary, while export records remain in the company’s name. Trade Minister Budi Santoso said that as of 1 January it was agreed that PT DSI acts as the single intermediary.

Rupiah under pressure

The rupiah traded at 18,079 per US dollar as of 6 November, according to RTI Business. The dollar has strengthened 1.82 percent against the rupiah over the past three months and 8.41 percent year to date.
