Where the money went

Foreign investors bought 31.43 trillion rupiah and sold 29.21 trillion rupiah of Indonesian equities during the week. Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BBRI) attracted net foreign purchases of 914.3 billion rupiah, while Bank Central Asia (BBCA) and Bank Mandiri (BMRI) drew 891.4 billion rupiah and 752.2 billion rupiah respectively. Charoen Pokphand Indonesia (CPIN) saw net foreign selling of 646.9 billion rupiah, Merdeka Gold Resources (EMAS) 375.9 billion rupiah and Indosat (ISAT) 248.1 billion rupiah.

Net foreign purchases through the cash market and negotiations reached 1.93 trillion rupiah, while the regular market segment recorded 297.24 billion rupiah in net foreign inflows.

Inflation and caution ahead

Indonesia’s inflation rose to 3.2 percent year-on-year in August 2026 from 2.9 percent in July, driven mainly by food and gold prices. Month-on-month inflation reached 0.2 percent. Core inflation rose to 1.93 percent year-on-year. Manufacturing PMI fell to 49.8 in August, entering contraction.

Rully Arya Wisnubroto, Head of Research and Chief Economist at Mirae Asset Sekuritas Indonesia, said the domestic backdrop remained constructive, although food inflation increases and global yield pressure still limited room for more aggressive risk-on. Jessica Tasijawa, Fixed Income Analyst at Mirae Asset Sekuritas, said elevated inflation could keep Bank Indonesia cautious in maintaining inflation and rupiah stability.
