Hungarian retail diesel prices increased again from Friday, with traditional diesel and premium diesel both rising by a gross 4 forints per litre. The average retail prices quoted for the day stood at 642 forints per litre for 95-octane petrol and 721 forints per litre for diesel.

Second rise this week

The increase follows a previous diesel rise on Wednesday. Hungarian retail fuel prices are adjusted weekly, reflecting wholesale price movements recorded during the preceding week.

Diesel prices had been unchanged for a long time before this recent run of increases. The buffer that absorbs shocks from international energy markets had practically disappeared by the end of September.

A favourable shift

Despite the rise, the move is described as a favourable development given current conditions.

The 642-forint petrol price and 721-forint diesel price are the latest average figures quoted for Hungarian pumps. Further weekly adjustments will depend on wholesale price movements in the days ahead.
