European natural gas storage levels stood at 68.02 percent ahead of the heating season, marking at least a 10-year low for this time of year as inventories lag behind regional benchmarks.
Deficit against historical benchmarks
The aggregated European gas storage fullness level of 68.02 percent sits below the 10-year average gas storage fullness level of 82.9 percent recorded across the 2016-2025 period.
Storage stood at 70.7 percent in 2021.
That 2021 level represented the previous record low gas storage fullness level for this time of year, leaving regional stockpiles under earlier seasonal marks.
Rules on pre-winter volumes
European Union regulations target around 90 percent gas storage fullness ahead of winter, with a flexible timeframe replacing the previous rigid November 1 deadline.
The current 68.02 percent fullness level leaves inventories below that 90 percent European Union target ahead of peak winter heating demand.
