Kyle Haustveit, US Assistant Secretary of Energy, said the US is actively working with refineries to increase diesel production. He spoke at the Drake Forum in Titusville, Pennsylvania.
Fuel prices remain at record levels, which he tied to supply disruptions from the Iran and Ukraine wars. The exact date of the remarks was not stated.
Stock releases and coordination
The Trump administration, together with Europe, has urged a market release of 50 million barrels. Coordination with allies on diesel stocks is ongoing.
The International Energy Agency announced the previous week that it would accelerate the release of crude oil and refined product stocks it had pledged in March. That package includes more than 20 million barrels of diesel.
IEA ready for another release
Fatih Birol, head of the International Energy Agency, said the agency is ready to conduct another coordinated stock release among member countries if necessary. He confirmed the position on Tuesday.
