Prime Minister Péter Magyar announced a broad tax cut in Parliament. Personal income tax on the minimum wage will fall to 9 percent next year. Income tax will also fall for everyone earning up to a gross monthly salary of 680,000 forints from 2027.
Who benefits and by how much
For minimum-wage workers, take-home pay will rise by 20,000 forints a month, or 240,000 forints a year. The measure covers 2.5 million people, whose personal income tax falls from 2027. Magyar said no one’s tax would rise.
The government’s own calculations put the amount left with workers at 250 billion forints a year. The cut is one part of a wider package that also includes a planned tax exemption for mothers and a doubling of the family allowance.
Budget package
The measure takes effect with the 2027 tax year.
