US stock indexes opened higher at the start of the trading week, as investors bet that diplomatic efforts could bring the Middle East conflict to an end. Oil prices fell on the same expectations. The Dow Jones rose 1.06 percent to 52,318.66 points, the Nasdaq gained 0.84 percent to 25,650.41 points and the S&P 500 added 0.58 percent to 7,623.78 points.

Oil and diplomacy

The New York Stock Exchange opened the week higher after losses the previous Friday. Those losses left the Nasdaq with its worst month in more than a year. Negotiations gained momentum, and the prospect of a settlement weighed on crude.

The move came after a difficult stretch for the tech-heavy index.

Marvell falls on Lumentum deal

Marvell Technology fell 4.83 percent after announcing an all-stock acquisition of optical components maker Lumentum. The deal is valued at about 115 billion dollars.

The acquisition is structured entirely in stock, meaning Lumentum holders will receive Marvell shares rather than cash.
