Poland will invest 1 trillion zlotys in its energy sector over the next 10 years, Minister of State Assets Wojciech Balczun said Thursday at the Opole Energy Congress. Balczun called it “a decade of the largest investments in the energy sector in history”, framing energy security as crucial to economic growth and stable functioning of the entire system alongside defence spending.
Polish companies and offshore wind
Balczun said Poland wants Polish companies to be “beneficiaries of these large investments” directed to the energy sector, allowing them to participate in tenders and build competencies. Technology transfer matters most for offshore wind farms, he said, as Poland lacked competencies in this area until now.
The minister stressed that Poland will develop a dynamic energy mix combining renewable energy with conventional generation. Energy security is key, he said, in the face of Russia’s hybrid warfare against Poland, Europe, Central Europe and the Baltic region.
Geopolitical context
Balczun cited Russia’s conduct of attacks and sabotage, describing it as expanding aggression towards Germany and the United Kingdom while losing its war in Ukraine. The energy investments will protect critical infrastructure from such threats, he said, while guaranteeing citizens access to cheap energy.
Poland will not leave its path of growth, Balczun said.
