The United Arab Emirates government is willing to supply Indonesia with up to 30 million barrels of crude oil, with shipping fleet costs waived, SKK Migas head Djoko Siswanto said on Tuesday. He spoke at the Inpex FEED Completion Ceremony in Jakarta. Energy Minister Bahlil Lahadalia had met the UAE ambassador earlier, though no date for that meeting was given.

Siswanto said the UAE ambassador, Abdulla Salem AlDhaheri, had conveyed the offer. “The UAE ambassador conveyed that the UAE government will send up to 30 million barrels of oil to Indonesia, Indonesia bears no cost at all, including fleet costs,” Siswanto said.

Trade volumes and value

Indonesia imported 1.80 million tonnes of petroleum and its products from the UAE in 2024, according to Badan Pusat Statistik. Those imports were valued at US$1.18 billion.

Imports from the UAE peaked in 2017 at 3.28 million tonnes. The highest import value in the 2017-2024 period was US$1.90 billion, recorded in 2022, when volume stood at 2.54 million tonnes.

Alternative suppliers and RON 90 supply

Bahlil had earlier suggested India and China as alternative suppliers of fuel. Indonesia still imports part of its subsidised Pertalite, a RON 90 gasoline, from Singapore.
