Prices advance on geopolitical risks

Brent crude oil futures rose 2 percent to reach $106 a barrel, while the US WTI spot contract increased by 1.8 percent to $92.3 per barrel. The stronger move was seen in Brent, reflecting concerns about supply disruptions linked to the region.

NBC News sources indicated discussions about restarting large-scale Iranian military operations were underway within the administration.

Escalation threatens energy supply

The rise in oil prices comes as tensions intensified after Iran-backed groups targeted Saudi Arabian airports and Iran launched attacks on tankers in the Hormuz Strait. Analysts warned that any escalation disrupting shipping through this key passage or Saudi energy infrastructure could threaten physical oil supplies and push prices higher.

Brent crude was trading notably below levels seen early in October, when it closed at $125.44 a barrel, based on MacroHerald’s measurement for 6 October 2026.
