European markets fell broadly. Germany’s DAX dropped 2.27 percent, the FTSE 100 lost 1.52 percent and the Euro Stoxx 50 fell 1.32 percent. France’s CAC 40 declined 1.29 percent, Italy’s FTSE MIB shed 1.27 percent and Spain’s IBEX 35 lost 1.04 percent.

Technology leads the US rebound

Analysts at Bx+ said they expected a moderate recovery in risk appetite during the session. A partial rebound in technology stocks, including Micron and Nvidia, set the tone for the US open.

The firm also pointed to US nonfarm payrolls and unemployment data, which it said supported the positive trend in S&P 500 and Nasdaq futures. Stocks were trying to recover from declines in the previous session, which followed the Democratic victory in the US Congress.

Oil and Mexico move lower

Crude oil prices fell. West Texas Intermediate dropped 0.75 percent to $89.56 a barrel, while Brent fell 1.59 percent to $96.41 a barrel. Mexican and Spanish-language local indices were also lower, with the S&P/BMV IPC down 0.32 percent in preliminary trading and FTSE-BIVA off 0.33 percent.
