IEA accelerates releases

The International Energy Agency said member countries had agreed to accelerate the release of about 100 million barrels of strategic reserves not yet released, including more than 20 million barrels of diesel. About 330 million barrels have been released since March under the joint action, and the total is expected to exceed an initially committed volume of 400 million barrels. US strategic crude oil stocks were unchanged at 283 million barrels.

Technical levels put Brent resistance at $108.26 a barrel and support at $101.03.

Sanctions and strikes

The US Treasury Department added 16 individuals and 10 organisations to a sanctions list targeting Iran’s financial networks. Russian President Vladimir Putin said Ukraine had attacked some refineries but that there was no serious damage, adding that the attacks were continuing and that Kyiv should think about the consequences.

Brent spot in Europe closed at $126.55 a barrel on 14 October 2026, by our data, a separate benchmark from the Brent futures price quoted in the report. WTI crude closed at $101.91 a barrel the same day, also by our data.
