Hungarian natural gas consumption began rising after 10 October, exceeding 15 and then 20 million cubic metres per day. The increase followed a multi-year low in daily use during early autumn.
Consumption from 1 September to 19 October totalled 657 million cubic metres, the lowest for that period in at least 12 years. It was 23 percent below the first half of autumn 2025.
Storage and prices
Hungarian underground storage was about 78 percent full, against an EU average of roughly 75 percent. Inventory stood at 4.8 billion cubic metres in mid-October, compared with 4.45 billion a year earlier.
Weather and power demand
Heating demand picked up as temperatures fell. September’s average of 18.6 degrees Celsius was the lowest since 2022.
Gross electricity turnover in September reached 3,370.9 GWh, against 3,366.3 GWh in September 2023. Electric heating and heat pumps are spreading, and gas’s share of power generation is falling.
