Indonesia’s economy grew 5.47 percent year on year in the third quarter of 2026, Statistics Indonesia (BPS) reported Thursday, faster than the 5.29 percent recorded in the second quarter of 2026 and the 5.04 percent logged in the third quarter of 2025.

Government holds to target

“For the fourth quarter the government still targets 5.4 year to date, so the target is roughly the same as what was achieved in Q3,” he said.

Hartarto said the government plans to keep up stimulus to protect purchasing power. The government also intends to continue spending under the Makan Bergizi Gratis and Koperasi Desa Merah Putih programs, while pushing exports and investment.

Consumption leads growth

Edy Mahmud, Deputy for Balance Sheets and Statistical Analysis at BPS, said every expenditure component posted positive growth in the quarter. “From the expenditure side in Q3 2026 on a year-on-year basis, all components recorded positive growth,” he said.

Government consumption grew 8.95 percent year on year, the fastest among the expenditure components, and accounted for 7.28 percent of GDP. Household consumption rose 5.04 percent year on year and made up 51.97 percent of GDP, remaining the largest single component of output.
