The Russian government has extended its ban on exports of diesel, marine fuel and gas oil by producers until 31 January 2027. The measure was previously valid until 31 October, according to a written government statement. The government said the ban aims to preserve stability in the domestic fuel market.

Refinery attacks drive domestic supply concerns

Ukrainian drone attacks on Russian oil refineries have forced many facilities into maintenance. In some regions, those disruptions have led to restrictions on fuel sales.

The government’s concern is domestic supply. Keeping fuel at home is meant to steady local markets while refineries are offline.

Partial easing after US agreement

The extension comes after a limited easing. Following an agreement with the United States reached on 9 October, Russia partially eased the diesel export ban on 10 October. The first stage allowed 500,000 tonnes of fuel to be shipped to world markets.

The ban now runs through January.
