South Kalimantan’s provincial government said forest and land fires in the province have not yet caused a rise in inflation, and that economic losses from the fires have not yet been calculated. The statement was made to reporters on Tuesday (27/10) at the office of the Ministry for Economic Affairs in Jakarta.
Prices still controlled
Ariandi Noor, Assistant for Economy and Development to the Regional Secretary of South Kalimantan Province, said inflation has not been strongly affected because the flow of people and goods is already running smoothly. Price distribution is being maintained, he said, so prices remain under control.
He said inflation drivers remain jewellery and gold. Volatile food items such as chilli and shallots, along with vegetable prices, can still be controlled, he added.
Losses yet to be tallied
Noor said immaterial losses have been felt, since in some places community activities are disrupted by smoke. The material losses are not known precisely, he said, and environmental damage has not been calculated.
The provincial government said it is awaiting calculations from relevant authorities, including the National Disaster Mitigation Agency, on the losses caused by the fires. Between 1 January and 14 October 2026, the Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency of South Kalimantan Province recorded 4,926 forest and land fire incidents, covering a total of 27,202.97 hectares.
