The Swiss National Bank reported a third-quarter profit of 19.1 billion Swiss francs, equivalent to about 23.14 billion US dollars, bringing its profit for the first nine months of the year to 44.2 billion francs.

Gold and currency gains

The bulk of the nine-month result came from foreign currency positions, which contributed 43.3 billion francs. The value of the SNB’s gold reserves rose by 1.2 billion francs over the same nine-month period. In the third quarter alone, foreign currency positions added 11.6 billion francs, while gold assets produced a net gain of 7.6 billion francs.

The third-quarter profit was smaller than the 27.9 billion francs the SNB reported in the same quarter last year, when gold gains were the larger driver. Gains in equity valuations and exchange rate effects this year more than offset significant price losses in investments such as bonds.

Balance sheet in focus

By our own measurement, the franc traded at 0.8246 per US dollar as of 18:23 GMT on 31 October 2026.
