German consumer confidence, measured by the GfK survey, came in at -30.8 for November 2026, according to data released on 28 October 2026. The reading was above the market forecast of -30.9. It was lower than the previous period’s reading of -30.6.

What the index measures

The GfK Consumer Confidence index is a survey-based gauge of how households view the economy, their personal finances and their willingness to make large purchases. A reading below zero means that more consumers are pessimistic than optimistic. The index is watched by economists and policymakers as an early signal of household spending.

Against the forecast, the figure was 0.1 points higher than expected. Against the previous period, it was 0.2 points lower. The two comparisons point in different directions, and both are small moves on the scale of the index.
