He made the remarks to reporters at the Ali Wardhana Building in Jakarta.

Earnings and transaction data cited

“Purchasing power is not weakening; the evidence is that in the third quarter, consumer-sector issuers’ revenue is expected to rise by almost 6 percent, so if their revenue rises, consumption rises,” Dradjad said. The figure is a forecast rather than a reported result.

Dradjad also cited QRIS transactions, saying they had risen by more than 100 percent. “QRIS transactions have risen by more than 100 percent; this is a significant shift in consumption patterns, including consumption on marketplaces and online, not a weakening of purchasing power,” he said.

Transport, tourism also cited

Dradjad pointed to growth in the transportation and tourism sectors as further evidence, along with growth in online shopping. He said he had earlier raised the purchasing power claim in remarks made at BPS, Statistics Indonesia, and that BPS data show purchasing power remains strong.

Some supporting data could not be published, Dradjad said, without elaborating further. He did not give additional figures beyond the earnings forecast and the QRIS transaction growth.
