Brazil’s Economic Activity Index, the IBC-Br, rose 0.30% in August compared with July on a seasonally adjusted basis, the Central Bank of Brazil reported on Friday. The gain matched economists’ expectations in a Reuters poll. Growth was flat against the consensus.
Revision to July and annual trend
The central bank revised July’s decline to 0.4% from the 0.2% it first reported. The earlier reading had understated the drop in activity during the previous month. The August figure was still a gain.
Compared with August 2025, the index rose 1.2%. Over twelve months it was up 1.6%.
Sector breakdown points to services and industry
Agricultural activity fell 1.8% in August from July. Industry rose 0.9% over the same period. Services edged up 0.2%.
IBGE had already published sector data for August. It showed declines in industrial production and services, and a small gain in retail. All three segments came in below economists’ expectations.
The IBC-Br is seen as a leading indicator of quarterly GDP.
