Mexico’s Finance Secretary Edgar Amador said the economy is gaining momentum, pointing to GDP growth of 3.4 percent year-on-year in July and 3.5 percent in August. Speaking at the Milken Institute Global Investors Symposium, he said the dynamism extended into the third quarter of 2026.

A tentative September reading

Amador cited an early estimate from INEGI, Mexico’s national statistics agency, showing annual growth in economic activity of 3.7 percent in September. He described it as ‘the timely estimate of INEGI’, a preliminary figure subject to revision. If confirmed, it would mark the highest annual rate for a month since September 2023.

Analysts have revised their outlook for Mexico upward, according to Amador. He did not elaborate on which institutions or by how much.

Inflation and rates steady

Amador said the Mexican economy ‘is doing well’, since growth at a pace close to 3 percent has come alongside falling inflation and stable interest rates.

The remarks came against a broader backdrop that included the Federal Reserve holding its rate unchanged despite what was described as elevated inflation, though no further detail on that decision was given.
