France’s preliminary annual inflation rate reached 3.4% for October 2026, according to the data release. The figure came in above the market forecast of 3.2%. It was also higher than the previous period’s reading of 3.1%.

What the figure measures

The inflation rate tracks how much the general level of consumer prices has changed over a year. A reading of 3.4% means that prices, on average, were 3.4% higher than a year earlier. Because the figure is preliminary, it may be revised when the final numbers are published.

The release was issued at 07:45 GMT on 30 October 2026. Compared with the forecast, the reading was above expectations, while against the previous period it rose by 0.3 percentage points.
