Indonesia’s Financial Services Authority (OJK) said on Monday it had made maximum efforts with other capital market regulators to respond to pressure on the stock market stemming from sentiment around MSCI. The Jakarta Composite Index (JCI) fell sharply during the session.
At 10:29 WIB the JCI stood at 4,916.81 index points, down 268.30 points, or 5.17 percent, from the previous close. The index had opened at 4,961.88 points. Its intraday high was 4,974.66 points and its intraday low was 4,907.37 points.
Regulators respond to the sell-off
OJK Board of Commissioners Chair Friderica Widyasari Dewi said the regulator had taken various steps. “Thank you, we have made various efforts, hopefully the situation is okay,” she said.
OJK, the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) and the Indonesian Central Securities Depository (KSEI) held a meeting with market players and finfluencers on Sunday, 18 October 2026. The JCI had opened 223 points lower than the previous week’s close.
Reform measures and the MSCI review
On Friday, 16 October 2026, Friderica presented capital market reform steps at a press conference at IDX. The measures include lowering the shareholding disclosure threshold from 5 percent to 1 percent, and expanding investor classifications from 9 types to 39.
OJK said MSCI had officially stated that its review would be conducted in November. The regulator said MSCI’s input aligns with the Indonesian Capital Market Integrity Reform Acceleration Action Plan, particularly on consistent and sustained law enforcement.
Trading volume on 19 October reached 141.26 million lots, with a value of 8.22 trillion rupiah.
