Speculative positioning
Data from the Commodity Futures Trading Commission shows speculators remained net long gold, holding 210,335 contracts in the report dated 06 Oct 2026. That position stood at 218,632 contracts a week earlier, so the net long shrank by 8,297 contracts over the period, though it remains a sizeable net long holding in the futures market.
The CFTC figures are a weekly snapshot and are reported separately from the spot price, so they do not by themselves explain the metal’s level on Monday.
